About Us

About Jake
My name is Jacob Teater; I am from Tremont, Illinois. I was raised in a Christian home. Growing up I heard a lot about missionaries at Northfield Christian Fellowship (then called the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church). When I was 16 years old I went on my first short term mission trip to inner city St. Louis. My youth pastor, Josh Pflederer, took us to a children's outreach to help out with some remodeling. About nine months later my youth pastor took some of the youth and I to Watts, Los Angeles. We stayed there a week helping out in the school and playing with the kids. It was here that God started confirming my suspicion that He wanted me to work in missions
A year later my youth pastor took ten of us from the youth group on a missions trip to Irian Jaya, Indonesia. At that time Roger Stuber and his family were serving there. Roger was a missionary pilot (after many years on the mission field he returned to the States) and he took us to work in some of the remote parts of the island.
When I returned home I started my senior year in high school, planning to graduate a semester early so that I could go to Brazil to work at Canaan Land Ministries as a short termer. However a few days before I was to leave I came down with malaria (a little souvenir from Indonesia) and my trip was delayed a couple of months. Once I recovered I made two more short term trips to CLM – in 2000 for 45 days and 2001 for 6 months. I worked quite a bit in the work shop and taught the boys a little bit of carpentry.
In April 2004, I moved to Brazil to serve a two year term as a missionary at CLM. After I served one and a half years at CLM - Entre Rios, then moved to Turvo to help open our new children's home there. I did a lot of maintenance work, computer work and I enjoyed my time with the kids.
About Amanda
My name is Amanda Teater, formerly Gutai. I am from Mansfield, Ohio. I was also raised in a Christian home and am a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mansfield. Hearing missionary presentations at church camp as well as in my home church, God started tugging on my heart with missions when I was 15. Over the next few years, God confirmed a calling to CLM specifically. I went on my first short-term mission trip to CLM in November 2002. Those three weeks gave me a totally new perspective on life. I returned to CLM for a two month stay in May 2004. God showed me many ways in which he desired to use me at CLM. One of those ways was to use occupational therapy, which I was studying in college, to help the children of CLM overcome the traumas and learning struggles that they were facing. I began learning Portuguese and preparing for an unknown time when God would send me to CLM permanently. During this time, I also worked as the Operation Prayer Coordinator through International Christian Fellowship Group (ICFG) connecting youth and adults in the states as prayer pals to the children at CLM. In August 2005, I brought a team of ten down to CLM to do some small projects and activities with the kids.
About Us
In 2007, Jake moved back to the United States, God had shown him it was time for us to get married. In March, we got engaged and married in June. In December of that year, Amanda graduated with her master’s in occupational therapy. In April 2009 we were granted our visas and moved to Brazil. Currently we have child care as our main responsibility. We, along with the other missionaries play the daily role of parents in the lives of the children. We provide daily care for them, everything from making sure they bathe to playing board games to devotions.
