An overview of CLM narrated be the director, Mary

What Canaan Land Ministries does:

  • CLM is a Christian mission helping the abandoned children of Brazil. 7-8,000,000 children in Brazil live on the streets of Brazil.
  • CLM does this by creating safe, secure environments in which children can grow, while exposing them to the Gospel message and a variety of Christ-centered programs.
  • CLM has responded to the Biblical mandate to care for the fatherless of Brazil.
  • CLM has the goal of establishing child care that works in all of Brazil for the purpose of reaching as many of these children as possible with the message of the hope that is in Jesus.

  • The 3 Branches of Canaan Land Ministries

  • CLM Entre Rios - This is where the ministry originally began with a farm house which was converted into a children's home. Over the years it has undergone many changes. The major remodel was completed in 1999.
  • CLM Turvo - The first children's home offspring from CLM. Construction of the first flor was completed in 2006. The second floor is currently under construction. Luiz and Aniniha are the directors in Turvo.
  • CLM Plus - This program has been developed for the teens who are ready to leave home. CLM assists these young adults with schooling and housing or a work opportunity as needed. CLM Plus mirrors how the relationship changes within a family when kids go off to college.

  • The History of the Canaan Land Ministries

In 1970 Art and Inge Haring brought a group of older boys from the Boys Orphanage in Nepomuceno to Parana. They moved into an old farmhouse that had been donated by Jakob Lay for the purpose of starting a ministry that meets the needs of either the elderly or the children of Brazil.

The Harings were there for four years ministering to the boys and updating the farmhouse with running water and indoor plumbing. Luiz, who is now raising his family and working at CLM, was one of the older boys that Art had brought with him.

The Haring's tried to get permission to have a boys' orphanage in Parana. Permission was denied since the Haring's were wanting to bring boys from another state. The government's reasoning was that the state of Parana had enough needy children of their own. The Haring's then returned to Nepomuceno with the boys.

Ken and Hope Pflederer, who were helping the Haring's in Parana already one year, stayed in Parana. They tried to gain permission to begin an orphanage in Parana for about one year. When the government agreed, the Pflederer's prayed in faith that the first child the judge would send would determine whether it would be a girls' or boys' orphanage... The Parana Girls' Home was begun. Ken and Hope were in Parana for 9 1/2 years, the last 2 1/2 years Mary Gibson helped them at the Girls' orphanage.

The Pflederer's then returned to the States and Tim and Fran Brower came to replace them. The Brower's had worked with Art Haring for one year in Nepomuceno. The Brower's were in Parana for 13 years.

In 1990, after much prayer, a miracle happened...boys were allowed at the orphanage. There were three boys brought to the home within one week. The mission was then called the Parana Children's Home. Tim Brower was inspired by God to change the name to Canaan Land Ministries with a logo to match. The ministry was expanding beyond the children's home to evangelizing to a medical ministry and this new name included it all.

The property now belongs to the Canaan Association for the Protection of Minors (Associação Canaã de Proteção aos Menores) as CLM is known in Brazil. The Association is directly governed by the Apostolic Christian Church Missionary Committee (ACCM) and funded by the Apostolic Christian Churh Foundation (ACCF).
